 close "matches" without freetext-engine?
Hello

I was wondering if there's a way to find maches using a select query without
using the freetext-engine in sql 2000?

e.g 'shoes'  matches: 'shoe', 'shoelaces', 'shoeshops' and so on

TIA
/Lasse

Lasse, using LIKE you can, partly:

WHERE ColumnName LIKE 'Shoe%'

But this is not as flexible as Full-Text search.

Narayana,

ah ok, but Shoes% returns 0 hits, I guess  I'll need that searchengine after
all

Shoes% will find values "starting" with Shoes. See BOL for more info on
wildcard searches.
