When trying to open via ADO to a MS SQL Server database I
receive an error 'Cannot perform this operation on a
closed dataset'.  I can connect to the same database with
a BDE connection...any ideas?

stacy,

how do you query for data? do you call a stored procedure? if so, make sure
'set nocount on' is at the beginning of your stored procedure.
e.g.
    create proc stacy

    as
        set nocount on
        select * from northwind..orders
    go

-oj

This sort of question is best addressed to the Access newsgroup.

This error could be the result of not selecting a unique identifier field
for the table during the linking process.  When the table is linked through
ODBC a Unique Record Identifier must be chosen to make the recordset
updateable.  If there
is no unique identifier field in the back-end table then you may select a
field or fields to use as the unique identifier field for the table.
