 Can't install SQL Server 7 Beta 3 on Windows98
I have problems installing SQL Server 7 Beta 3. I'm installing desktop
version of server, which should be working with Windows 95 and 98. Setup
runs fine but when trying to connect with server program shows message
window saying something about assertion failed in one of C++ files.
If I select Ignore button, the SQL Server uninstalls itself, if I choose
Retry button program preforms ilegal operation.

Please help me if you know how...

Peter - SQL 7 problems should be reported in the beta newsgroups.  But
check that you have a 100% pentium compatible machine as otherwise SQL
will fail to install.

Release 7.0 will not run on this.

As far as I'm told, it doesn't have a (pentium) compatible instruction set

Peter,

Because MS in their infinite wisdom decided to use an undocumented
pentium only command.  This has the effect of making SQL 7 not work on
non-100% pentium compliant chips.

A very bad move in most people's opinion, but it doesn't look like
they're going to change their minds.

I have the same problem on a Cyrix 200Mhz not MMX. Is this going to be in
the final version? I'm upset at this point.. not that anyone cares ;-)

 Jon,

MS do not appear to care and don't look like they've done anything.
