Indexed views replicated as tables

 Indexed views replicated as tables
Hi there!

I want to create a publication where I publish an indexed
view as a table. I want this publication to use
transactional replication using immediate and queued
updating. For some reason, this is not possible. Whenever
I check one of the boxes for immediate and queued
updating, I no longer can seem to replicate the view as a
table.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Thanx!

 Indexed views replicated as tables

Hi Mark.

If I understand this issue correctly, SQL Server 2000 Books Online mentions
that indexed views can't be updatable subscriptions. Here's the reference:

=============================
Article Issues in Replication Wizard Help

Description
~~~~~~~~~
Enter a description for the indexed view article.
In snapshot and transactional publications that do not allow updatable
subscriptions, you can specify whether indexed view articles create an
indexed view or a table at the Subscriber. Indexed view articles in merge
publications always create an indexed view at the Subscriber.
=============================
So, it does appear to be a limitation that you can't have an indexed view
in transactional replication that uses immediate and queued updating. You'd
need to make this a regular table to use immediate and queued updating.
Thanks Rita! The excerpt from the BOL indead mention my
issue. A clear case of 'read the darn manual'...
Unfortunately, it does not mention WHY it is not possible.
Anyway, thanks for the help.
 Indexed views replicated as tables
Hi Mark.
<g>
I think the main reason *why* this isn't do-able is that there can be *so*
many underlying tables in the indexed view. And, getting the updates back
(especially to something like a computed column) just would be a challenge.
I'm speculating on that :-)
