 Cannot make "Restore"
I want restore a BD from a Server to other and this message show:

Cannot use the backup file xxx.bak because it was originally formatted with
sector size 512 and is now on a device with sector size 2048.

Any ideas please?

It sounds like the backup file you are trying to restore is on a
different physical drive than where it was backed up to.
SQL Server does something with sector aligned writes which
imposes the limitation of having to restore from disks of the
same sector size. You would need to look at backing up using the
WITH BLOCKSIZE clause when you backup the database or restore the
database over the network if it's not going to overload the
network or backup to the drive you are going to restore from.

The backup file was recorded in CD. Later I copy the backup file in the
other server hard disk and  tried to restore and failed.
Maybe the backup file was recorded in CD en a different sector size.

Thanks a lot Sue.

Sorry. My english is poor.

I'm wondering if they didn't just backup to the CD. If they are
trying to get you a copy of the database and they can afford any
server downtime, have them use sp_detach_db and you can try to
get a copy of the database by attaching rather than restoring. I
don't know if you get the sector size issue with reattaching or
not but it's worth a shot.
