 DBCC trace flags

Hi,

I am using the following to output deadlock info to the error log.
DBCC TRACEON (1204, -1)
DBCC TRACEON (3605, -1)

Everytime someone brings down the server, these are lost. If I wanted
to add them to the startup parameters list,
a) do I need both?
b) what would the format be?

-T1204, and
-T3605

Thanks,

P

Paul,

Yes, you will need both  -T1204 and -T3605 as two entries in startup
parameters.

kevin

How much overhead is there to using these trace flags (1204, 3605) to log
the deadlocking?  Just curious...

Thanks, Kevin

Thanks Kevin, Vyas.

I will follow thread re:overhead costs. That would manifest itself in
slower response, but should not actually increase deadlocking, right?

 DBCC trace flags

Yes, there will be some overhead but no quantitative data.
On a production system, if there is performace issue and number of
deadlocks are high,
it is better to use DBCC TRACEON (1204, 3605, -1) from Query Analyzer
so that you may turn off the deadlock trace as needed.

kevin
