SQL (6.5) and MS Proxy 2.0

Does anyone know if there is a way to use an SQL database that is sitting
behind proxy (2.0) from a webserver that is outside the proxy server??

We are trying to have our outside webserver use a SQL database from within
our organization (behind proxy) to load databases, etc.

We've tried creating a wspcfg.ini file for the sql server and going that
route, and opening port 1433 (which i'm told is the default port sql uses).
But to no avail.  When the wspcfg.ini file is used, the sql server wont even
start.  So it's not even available for servers inside the network.

Anyone have a clue as to if this is possible?

Thanks.
