 Problem with varchar field

I am in the middle of creating a sql server db for an
ASP.NET web application.  I currently have 1 table with 3
fields - the table is services.  there is a serviceID
(primary key), a serviceName (varchar), and a
serviceDescription (varchar) fields.

In my serviceDescription field, it is set to hold the max
(8000) size.  The problem I am having, using both
enterprise manager and vs.net is that I can only input
1023 characters into this field.  Does this make
sense???  Are there any explanations about this? Am I
doing something wrong???  Please offer
suggestions/solutions.  Thanks and enjoy the holiday.

 Problem with varchar field

Steve, the 1023 character limit is a client (Enterprise Manager) limitation.
You can insert the data via an INSERT statement in Query Analyzer, for
example:
INSERT myTable (serviceID, serviceName, serviceDescription)
VALUES (1, 'myservice', <very long string here>)

 Problem with varchar field
I am sure it is just a limitation of the GUI or the driver.  Use Query
Analyzer and make sure you change the Max chars per column setting.  Go to
Tools - Options - Results tab and change the setting there.

 Problem with varchar field
...but you still won't see more then 1023 characters in EM.
See Andrew's solution for viewing the data.
