 data transfer/sync basics between pc and pocket pc

I'm new embedded development and from the lack of good documentation and
confusing/conflicting posts on the forums I've been reading, I cannot get
the basic handle on the following simple application structure;

Select some records from a PC database (SQLServer or Access), send to PDA
database (preferably SQLCE) while cradled.  Get back the changes to those
records while PDA is cradled.  This will not be a total database sync, just
one table from the PDA updating related records in larger table on PC.

I prefer to control the process from PC.  I strongly prefer not having to
use IIS.  I prefer to use VB NET for the PDA app as the application will
probably get complex as time goes on but for now this is the simple
requirement, however I will use whatever available PDA database that is easy
to program from VB Net or eVB if I can simply transfer the table data back
and forth from the cradle  from my program (on the PC preferably, but as a
fallback from the PDA).

The database will be relatively small, probably around 200 - 300 records
transferred to PDA, so perhaps just sending an xml file both ways if there
is no direct way?  Thanks for any help pointing me to the right solution.

hi Glenn
 If u are targetting VB.net and your requirement is
replecationg the data from and to PDA, web services is a
option, but when PDA is cradeled some process should start
which will make call to the web service on your desktop
and start updationg the records. there can also be other
methods, possibly u can also use SQL CE replication.. but
that i have not done so yet..
hope this will help u

If a third party tool is an option then take a look at the following;
