Hot log restores instead of replicaion !!!???

All,

SQL 2000, Server 2000

I would like to do hot restores of the log I would like to use this instead of transactional replication. Replication dies far too much. I would initially synch the 2 databases. After that I would like to apply a transaction back up the second server. I would send the trans log from server A to server B. Server B must be fully accessible, we will not write the changes to server A. So there must be a switch somewhere that tells it when you say recover in the restore that it is at the end, and when it isn't. Does anyone know what that switch is? I've tried changing the status of the db, that doesn't work, it looks good, but it says that it is still in the middle of a load. Or, maybe there is a better way to do this than me hacking into the sql code. If there is let me know. This a production environment, so I can not drop the database and do a full restore adding the latest transaction log to the end. I need to just add the last backup. SQL's log shipping would almost work, except it is in read only mode, which will not work.

Thanks for all your help,
