 sp_who and "CONDITIONAL" connection

Hi,

We had a situation on SQL Server 7 (SP2), where we had a long running
batch job that after 2.5 hrs decided to "hang".

Running "sp_who" showed a command status of "conditional".  There was
no sign of blocking and CPU usage was minimal.

Faced with a decision of wait further or reboot server, we plumbed for
the reboot.  Scanning through the SQL Log - the database recovered and
rolled back the change?

Does anybody have any details on what the CONDITIONAL state is?

Thanks in anticipation
Terry

The process is executing an IF or WHILE statement. Such a statement
could take a long time if it includes a EXISTS clause with a long-
running SELECT.

However, for my own processes I tend to find them stuck in CONDITIONAL
when I managed to program an infinite loop.

What applies to your case is difficult to tell with any further details.
