WINNT SP6a: SQL Server Agent

 WINNT SP6a: SQL Server Agent
SQL Server Agent is not always restarting itself after a server reboot or
restart of SQL Server.

I would like to setup someway of checking all servers to see if the Agent is
running. Any suggestions as to the best way to do this would be helpful.

 WINNT SP6a: SQL Server Agent

Create a stored proc

create proc sp_autostart_sqlagent
as
set nocount on
exec master.dbo.xp_servicecontrol 'START', 'SQLAgent$DEV'
go

Make the SP auto start
exec master.dbo.sp_procoption 'sp_autostart_sqlagent', 'startup', 'true'

This will make sure that you always start SQL Agent if you start SQL Server.

Mike - you need an NT level tool that will check for a service running - there
are several commercial/shareware of these on the market.  Just do an internet
search for service, nt, monitor and restart
