Strange speed effect ?

 Strange speed effect ?

Hi, all.

I've noticed an interesting (puzzeling)  speed phenomenon when using OSQL
and MSDE.  If I am adding records, (VC++, ADO) to a database (mydbase), and
then, open OSQL and execute the statement "USE mydbase", my application
speeds up tremendously.

So, my questions are (1) why do just a USE statement, in another
application, enhance my application, and (2) can I do anything to make this
condition of faster record addition/updating from within my own appl ?

Thanks ,

 Strange speed effect ?

I would use Profiler to see  what's happening. This is speculation, but I
wonder if the DB is set to auto close and the application is cloing it's
connection regularly for some reason. That would mean SQL would close the db
and reopen it when the next query came in....

opening a session from OSQL would keep the DB open.... that could explain
the behaivior, but SQL Profiler will help you  know for sure....
