 HELP: Images on SQL-Server 6.5 / 7.0

Hello,

we need to store images on our SQL-Server V 6.5 or 7.0. One way is to
store these images under MS-Access and then transfer the table to the
SQL-Server. In this case the resulting table on the SQL-Server will blow
up to some MB's within only one picture stored in any format will have
not more than 20 KB. Under Access, the picture can already be used as an
OLE-Object and so be used in Crystal-Reports for outputing images as
signs etc. This will also be able with a link to the SQL-Database over
Access. Crystal-Reports can't access to the image-coloums directly...
But: we are not able to access to those elements under VB. Facts: Many
overhead for storing images on SQL-Servers and not usable under VB.

So we tried another ways to store images on SQL-Server: we have stored
them directly as blobs into the image field and the picture with a size
of 20 KB was stored in less than 32 KB in the database. Well, but now it
is no longer an OLE-Object and there is no chance to access to the
images by Crystal-Reports. Therefore we can now access to the images
under VB in every way, for example with the ADODC and a bounded
Picturebox.

Our question to you:

Do anybody know the way, how we can use images as an OLE-Object without
blowing up the needing database size and also  be able to access to
these pictures under VB?

Thanks for every responding and a happy new year
