Proxy Server vs. firewall

 Proxy Server vs. firewall

How do the security features of Proxy Server compare with those from a
hardware firewall?  I've heard that a firewall offers better security.
Is that true, and is Proxy's security adequate, in any case?

 Mark,

Never rely on just MS proxy - always use it with a firewall as well.  It's
fine at what it does, but it is a proxy, not a security device.

 Proxy Server vs. firewall

Proxy Server has little to do with firewall services. A hardware/software
combo is the best, next best is software only. If you have an old computer
around somewhere install a software firewall on it and use it for your
firewall only. But there are many hardware and software solutions to this.

Mark,
beside what the others have said, which I completely agree on,
if you don't have time constraint you may want to have a look
at the beta of the new Internet Security And Acceleration Server
which promises to be both a good firewall and a fast proxy.

Just my .2 cents :-)
