Can I remove permissions from public?
Im trying to beef up security in a hurry. Would this be a good practice? Any
downsides? I will be using WINNT groups and SQL roles. If public cant do
ANYTHING, will I have problems if I specify what permissions my groups/
roles have?
Thanks in advance.

You can remove them. Think of public as a SQL role. Everyone that has access
to the db inherits the permissions on public. If you have a set of common
permissions that you want everyone to have, you can set them on public.
