SQL Server MAPI login failure

 SQL Server MAPI login failure

All,

About a month ago my maintenance plans on one of my servers stopped
sending the maintenance reports to the "operator".  There seems to be a
MAPI problem (see log output below).  The "SQL Mail" and the job
failure notification works fine.  I'm even able to open
the "testoperator" operator and press the "test" button to send a test
message.  All email functions seem to work fine except for the
maintenance report email.

Does anyone have any ideas????

Thanks,
Mike Adams

The first thing I would try would be to stop and restart both
SQL Agent and SQL mail. If that doesn't work, a cold boot usually
sorts things out. Books Online has a section on troubleshooting
SQL Agent/SQL Mail.

Question: is your maintenance report being sent auto-magickally
by SQL Agent or is your maintenance job sending it via xp_sendmail()?

I ask because xp_sendmail goes via SQL Mail; SQL Agent automatic mail
goes via SQL Agent's own mail processing. They're different.

I just had something like this happen -- it worked out that the
Exchange server went 'fall down and go boom.' When it came back
up for some reason, SQL Agent and SQL Mail had lost the connection
to the Exchange server, even though it looked, to all intents and
purposes, to completely hunkey-dorey.

Also look in the

* SQL Agent log
* SQL Server error log
* system event log

Hope this helps.

Nicholas,

Thanks for the response.  Yes, I've rebooted and SQL Mail and SQL Agent
email are both working.

The email is being sent by the Maintenance Plan automatically to the
specified operator in the Operators list.

Thanks!!
Mike

Just remember, the attention span of your computer is only as
long as its power cord!
