 Replication through firewall using ftp
I need to replicate data through a firewall without having to have a trust
relationship between domains. I have heard that it is possible to use ftp.
Anyone knows how???  Is there any other way? Please answer.

 Replication through firewall using ftp

Johannes,

The exact configuration depends on the firewall but basically you will have
to tell the firewall to listen on a given port.  Then anything it hears on
this port should be sent to the other SQL server outside on another IP
address /
port number.  You would tell the SQL Server on the inside to send to the
firewall by defining it as a server in the client configuration utility.

So in conclusion
    Firewall = 1.1.1.1
    external = 1.1.1.2
    Internal = 255.255.250.1

On client config of Internal define a SQL Server with an IP address of
1.1.1.1 using either TCP sockets or multi protocol define the socket eg 1444

On the firewall tell any traffic to be forwarded from port 1444 to 1.1.1.2
on port 1437

On the external server set up the tcp or mutli protocol network support
check out "Custom Server Configuration Using the Multiprotocol Networking
Library" in books on line for more details.

In the system i was working on the account /password was passed through the
firewall and validated on the subscriber.  So you then need to ensure that
the SQL Executive service is started with an account that maps to a matching
account on the subscriber and that the account has admin privileges so to
gain access to the subscriber db.

I hope this was of use.
