 #Temp Table Problems

We are experiencing some unusual performance problems.
Each time a query or process is run in which a Temp table
is required, the queries run indefinitely, timeout, or
fail to run.    If the temp table function is removed we
get results in seconds.

These are queries that have been run for a very long time,
and we have been unable to determine why they do not work
now.   There is very little activity on the SQL server.

Any help would be appreciated.

What should I look for on the server, database, settings,
parameters etc.

use sp_who/sp_who2 to see what is going on.

What version of SQL Server are you running?

john,

1. does the user have permision to create/update/delete on tempdb - obvious
but gotta ask
2. is the tempdb big enough to hold data - every time tempdb grows it puts
the db in dblock
3. caching to physical disk (i.e. writing to tempdb) is always slower than
in memory

john, if you provide ddl (create tables), sample data (inserts), procedure
codes, someone might have a solution for you.
