Import stops progressing on load

 Import stops progressing on load

I can no longer import files into my database. When I use
the import utility the ammount of rows eventually stops
incrementing. The server stops responding but I don't
receive any error from the load utility. I should have
plenty of hard drive space available for the import. I
have no idea why sql server ceases to load my data. The
CPU usage falls off after a while as if it had stopped
loading. It almost seems like it is working really really
hard to store a few records. The data I am loading is in
text files. The files contain approx 40 million rows of
data. Does anyone have an explanation for why this might
happen?

 Import stops progressing on load

How are you loading this data?
* BCP
* DTS
* or BULK INSERT

If you're loading 40 million rows... by default... most of the tools will
load it as a single transaction. You way want to set the batch size to lad
the data in smaller incremements. I suspect that's your problem. If you
provide details on the tool you're using people can help with more specific
suggestions.

 Import stops progressing on load
I am using the DTS import utility. I tried using BCP with the files I am
loading but had problems with BCP not recognizing end of row dilimiters.
The DTS has loaded several of the other similar files fine. I created a
new second database just to test a few things and it seems to be
importing fine to that database. Whatever the problem is it seems to be
database specific. It still fails when I try to import into the old
database though.
