Sequential dumps, more than one db, one dumpdevice...

I have set up a backup plan that uses one disk dumpdevice, and each night,
initializes, dumps the master, and then dumps two user databases without
init.  Then the disk is backed up to tape.  The following day, the
transaction logs are dumped to the same device, without init.

I just finished reading about a similar plan in a text book, and while
they don't indicate that it is not possible to restore from a device with
more than one database dumps appended on it, their examples always show a
separate disk device for each database.  Is in necessary to create a
different device for each db, or just neat and clean?

Thanks,

Ian

Ian,

No it's not necessary, but for disk dumps it is definitely neater, cleaner and
safer
