SQL 2000 Server Error 1069 Login Failure

I've been told that I can install Win XP PRO, Visual
Studio.net and SQL server 2000 on my Lap-Top so that I
can start learning how to write VB.net applications for
SQL server.  I've attempted to install and run SQL server
2000. I attempted to install SQL Server 2000 but have an
error that prevents starting the server. This means that
I also can not instal SP3 or start using VB.Net to
communicate with SQL server.   The error prevents the
server from starting, I receive the following error:

An Error 1069 - (The service did not start due to a login
failure.) Occurred while performing this service
operation on the MSSQLServer service.

Any guidance or help with getting the server running
would be greatly appreciated as I'm stuck and can not
begin learning SQL server till I get it started..

Thanks much,

Rick Humphrey
