Sun press relelease: Benchmark results using DB2 UDB V5

Industry-Standard OLTP and Decision Support Benchmarks Run
Simultaneously on Sun Enterprise 6000 Server and IBM DB2 Universal
Database Software

Palo Alto, CA -- November 19, 1997 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. today
announced a groundbreaking benchmark in which two diverse applications
-- online ransaction processing and decision support -- ran
simultaneously on a single system and
did so without compromising performance. The Sun TM Enterprise TM 6000
server running IBM's DB2 Universal Database ran both the Transaction
Processing Performance
Council Benchmark D (TPC-D) and the Transaction Processing Performance
Council Benchmark C (TPC-C) tests concurrently. Sun delivered the best
DB2 open system result
for the TPC-C benchmark at 15694.34 tpmC. On the same system, Sun ran
its first-ever multi-stream (multi-user) TPC-D benchmark supporting five

benchmarks demonstrate
the scalability and resource management capabilities of Sun's SPARCTM
SolarisTM platform by achieving scalability levels of 99 percent as an
application is added -- or two consolidated -- onto one server.
