SET PATH vs. SET DEFAULT

 SET PATH vs. SET DEFAULT
I use SET DEFAULT and almost (or just about) never used SET PATH.
As I worked with the another person, he insists to use SET PATH where I
use SET DEFAULT, so what is the different? The Help says it's almost the
same thing? What am I missing?

 SET PATH vs. SET DEFAULT

Set Default changes the working directory
Set path alters the PATH that it searches for compenents.

Say you have a database in C:\Apps\MyAPP3\MyFile.dbf

and your app is running; and it's current directory is c:\Data\MyData
and you issue USE  MyFile
you'd get "file not found"

If you did set path to c:\data\mydata;c:\apps\myapp3
issued use myfile it would open it.

Same goes for .app's fll's etc.

An example: I run a separate sales database for each catalog year for a mail
order company. When a new catalog is released, two sales databases (old and
new) are used but they share a separate customer and supplier database.
Running two separate versions of the code, SET DEFAULT will pick the correct
sales tables, but SET PATH picks the customers and suppliers because the
relevant tables don't exist in the DEFAULT directory.

Neil
