What is hypercube ?
1) Could anyone kindly tell me what is hypercube ?

2) How does it forms in Multidimensional Databases (MOLAP) ?

3) How does it forms in Relational Databases (ROLAP) ?

4) If there are more than 3 dimensions (4,5 or 6 dimensions) , how does
hypercube assemble from these 4 or 5 dimensions. ?

What is hypercube ?

An hypercube is a single cube, wherein every meausure is dimensioned by the
total set of dimensions.

On the contrary, in a multicube different measures can be defined by
different sets of dimensions.

i'm only going to answer the 4th question for essbase.

the designer makes a determination (or allow essbase to make a determination)
which categorizes several dimensions as 'dense' and several as 'sparse'.
generally speaking the dense dimensions should be those with the lowest
volatility over the application lifecycle.

the cross product of the dense dimensions form an object of fixed size known
as a block. blocks are created iff a valid sparse combination exists in the
dataset. the maximum number of blocks which *could* be created is known. those
which *are* created are indexed.

example
-----------------------------
dense   facts   20
dense   time    365
--
sparse  mfg plant        50
sparse  products        10000
sparse  customer        20000
----

block size = 20x365 (8byte cells)
sparse combos possible = 50x10000x20000

simple.
