 License expiry ?

Does anyone remember how to tell when an Ingres license is due to expire,
On Ingres 6.4 or OpenIngres 1.2
ie. using an Authorisation string as opposed to the later systems using
LicenseGIT.

Thanks in advance

 License expiry ?

There's a utility called ingchkdate which will tell you the expiry date of
your authorization string.

Mine just returns nothing.  How do you call it?

Cheers,

ingchkdate

If it doesn't say anything at all, your expiration date is at least
90 days in the future.  I'm not sure how to determine a future expiration
date, other than perhaps playing with the system date and using ingchkdate.

This is one of the reasons Caribou uses license keys that are
digitally signed text blocks, like this:

   #-------------------- Begin License String --------------------#
   KEY_LICENSE_NO           : 1410007039
   KEY_LICENSEE             : Acme Coyote Rockets

   KEY_EXPIRATION           : 03/01/2002
   KEY_DEMO?                : T
   KEY_PRODUCT_NAME         : JSQL/Ingres
   KEY_VERSION              : 2.5
   KEY_MACHINES             : any
   KEY_SHUTDOWN_TIME        : 0
   KEY_FEATURES             : any:any:03/01/2002
   KEY_MAINT                : 03/01/2002
   KEY_CHECKSUM             : 257D73156D4E0B37
   #--------------------- End License String ---------------------#

None of the text in the key can be altered or the software
won't generate the same "KEY_CHECKSUM".  This is similar to
how digitally signed E-mail works.

The nice thing about such a key is that the customer (and
salesperson) actually knows what the key is for!

I hate "key codes", but everyone seems to use them.   Is there some
weakness to our scheme?  Is it that hard to understand?

 License expiry ?

Richard,

Support have the ability to extract the expiry date from the
II_AUTH_STRING/II_AUTHORIZATION keys. Typically the key will normally run
till the end of your contract unless you have a lifeboat key.

 License expiry ?

Thanks to everyone,
I thought the license was going to run out today in the live environment  !
Aaaargh !  but it didn't.

The Question:

Does anyone remember how to tell when an Ingres license is due to
expire,
On Ingres 6.4 or OpenIngres 1.2, ie. using an Authorisation string as
opposed to the later systems using LicenseGIT.

The Answer appears to be to run either :

      ingchkdate or ingsetauth

both of which call $II_SYSTEM/ingres/utility/cichkcap

If it doesn't say anything at all, your expiration date is at least
90 days in the future.
