Pervasive 2000i workgroup gateway locator setting

Hi,
I have a problem accessing a remote database that was assigned to the
workgroup engine on that same computer.  That workgroup engine allows remote
connections and my computer is set to use remote and local engine.  I should
be able to open the database using the remote engine but I got a "database
file is not found" instead.  I have to change the remote database folder
setting to "unassigned" in the gateway locator in order to access it.  I'm
running Pervasive 2000i Workgroup engines on a peer-to-peer network.
Shouldn't I be able to assign a workgroup engine to the database and make it
as a server and the rest of workgroup engines as the clients?  If I set the
database folder to "unassigned", I'm afraid sometimes multiple engines might
try to access the database and get  error 116.  Any help is appreciated.

This sounds like you can access the file with basic file opens and reads but
not client server mode.
For this to work, you must have the network setup to allow machine to
machine communication.
For example if you are using TCPIP, make sure you can PING by name both
ways.
Run the Pervasive System Analyzer Communication test from the "client" to
the "server" and see if it reports any errors. There is a chapter in the
"Advanced Operations Guide" on the WGE that you may want to read for more
details. I would also review the "Getting Started" manual for the WGE.
