 Status 91/NLM lockup

For the last few months we have experienced problems with our Novell 4.11
server and btrieve 6.15 NLM.  Intermittently, usually after 2 or 3 days of
being active, the btrieve NLM appears to freeze and all DOS btrieve
applications return a status of 91.  The only thing strange on Btrmon is
that the number of threads is stuck at 10.  Usually it is 2 or less.  All
other processes on the server continues to work fine.  Bstop will not unload
the modules forcing a power down of the server.  After that, it's good for
another couple of days.  One more odd piece of the puzzle is that it only
happens when the server is least active.  We do quite a bit of batch
processing and it never dies during those processes, only several hours
later.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this nagging problem?

 Status 91/NLM lockup

Dear Dean,
Some of the characteristics of the problem that you have described
lead me to believe that you might be experiencing SPX problems.  For
example, all the threads being in use (number of threads is stuck at
10.) This typically means that the threads are waiting for the
workstation side to respond.  The fact that when you try to do a bstop
the btrieve never comes down.  Again, this could indicate that btrieve
is waiting for SPX to come back and indicated that all the tearing
down of the sessions is over.   I saw this with netware 3.12 when the
network had a lot of collisions and the client tried to compensate by
tweaking the SPX parameters.  The problem got worst.   SPX again
become unstable when Novell release two bad patches---SPXACKFX.nlm or
SPXTRMFX.nlm a while back. Most of these problem referenced with on
NetWare 3.12 but we suspect that packet collisions would affect SPX
even on NetWare 4x.
Were you stable at one time and then you patched the netware.?  If so,
we suggest that you go back to a previous revision of the patches.
We are currently looking at situations where problems started
happening after SP 5 was applied.

investigating this issue.

Jose
