Connecting a delphi client to PSQL7 over a network

Connecting a delphi client to PSQL7 over a network

have written an app in Delphi 6 which queries PSQL7 workgroup for
windows with 3 clients. I am very new to Delphi and started off
developing on the server and connecting via ODBC using BDE aliases. So
far so good, but now I have to get the app to work for the engineering
guys downstairs.

Tried 1: Find the ODBC drivers for PSQL7 and install them on the client
PC. No luck, there is no separate installation on the CD and a looong
web trawl nets nothing (free). Except for...

Tried 2: The PSQL SDK. Trial version, a free download or full version
for sale $150. I am unable to download the trail version. The pervasive
web site is a congealed mess.

Tried 3: Change the data access to RDS and ADO using
Provider=PervasiveOLEDB. It works OK on the server itself. On a client
PC, I map a drive to the data files, amend the source= parameter in
the .UDL file and get an error stating "ADO could not find the
specified provider". This points me back to the PSQL SDK, which of
course, does not exist for thick programmers in 3rd world countries
with low bandwidth access to the net. However, I have one more trick
up my sleeve.

Tried 4: I copy w3dadbv2.dll and w3daerv2.dll from the server to
the client and try to register them on the client with regsvr32.
Doesn't work...

I really am at my wits end. Please help! How can I access PSQL7 data
files from a Delphi 6 client app across a network?

Thanks and regards

Karel

If you have PSQL7 CD ODBC driver install should be under \CLients\ODBC\32\
directory.

Connecting a delphi client to PSQL7 over a network
Except that Pervasive.SQl  7 never had a workgroup engine.
Even under Pervasive.SQL 2000 workgroup you need to use an "engine
DSN" not a client DSN.

So which version do you have?

Connecting a delphi client to PSQL7 over a network
The ODBC in PSQL 7 is very different from the ODBC in Pervasive.SQL
2000, and they are not compatible.  If your target engine is PSQL 7,
you must find the PSQL 7 ODBC components to install on the client.
The Pervasive OLEDB provider is part of the Pervasive.SQL 2000
product, and shouldn't be used against a Pervasive.SQL 7 engine.  If
you need OLEDB support to PSQL 7, you need to use the MS driver with
the ODBC bridge, and the PSQL7 ODBC components.

If you don't have a pvsw\Clients\odbc\ directory, you need to use the
PSQL 7 CD to re-install.

I just re-read your message and noticed that it's not clear what
platform you have of the PSQL 7 product.  Do you have the NT server
version, the NetWare server version, or the Win9x workstation engine?
If it's the workstation engine, it can't be accessed remotely and
can't be used on multiple machines concurrently sharing files.  PSQL 7
didn't have that support.  For multi-user shared access, you have to
have the NT server engine installed.

The current release - Pervasive.SQL 2000i - also comes in NT and NW
server versions and a workstation version, but it is also available as
a workgroup version and a Linux server version.  The workgroup engine
release supports multiple Windows clients concurrently accessing data
on a shared drive, without requiring a WinNT/Win2000 server.
