I am currently writing an interface to provide validation and
transaction transfering for Data-Collection on Intermec devices.
The software provided by Intermec (Interscan) does a poor job of
supporting validation. I need to communicate from a Progress database
(local to the PC where the concentrator is connected) to Intermec
devices via a serial port. I must use the Windows version of Progress V7.

Also, the primary application's UNIX server will be connecting to
the PC's Progress server to get transactions and update validation
information local to the PC (to support collection independant of
the UNIX box being up/in communication). Thus the Windows requirement
for the server.

So, in summary, I need HLC C-code for Progress that accesses serial
devices. Preferably code that has been used under windows.

Any help in finding/supplying this code would be appreciated.

You don't need to use HLC for this.  You can call the MS-Windows kernel DLL
directly from V7 to talk to the serial port with full buffering and
handshaking at at least 9600 baud (plenty fast enough for most Intermec
devices).

BTW: If Intermec is still using that wierd programming language they had a few
     years ago, I agree - it sucks!
