 Data-Import for Applix' TM1
We're looking for a tool, which allows us to import data from a
relational database into Applix' TM1 Server 7.

What can you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

 Data-Import for Applix' TM1

Alexander,

I administer a fairly large TM1 site, though we're still on version 6
and have no plans to change at this time. I doubt that V7 will do data
importing much differently, though.

We import several 1 to 2 meg files each week, plus a smaller daily
one. IMHO the main tool that will be useful to you is Applix's Data
Control (though to be honest even that could be dispensed with you if
you want to familiarise yourself with the wonders of VBA).

I'd need more information before I could answer your question, though;
are you talking about a tool which directly extracts the data from the
database? (If so, I haven't heard of one; we find it just as easy to
export the data from our relational databases as comma delimited text
files, and then run it through mapping sheets to load it into the
server.) What kind of database are you using? Are your dimensions and
cubes set up in such a way that you could USE the raw data without
having to manipulate it in map sheets and/or the assistance of
translation cubes? (This would be rare in my experience.)

If you want to post some more details, I'll try to come up with some
suggestions.

Hello Alexander!

Look at www.cubeware.de there you find a link to a import tool
which allows you to import in TM/1 Server 6, TM/1 Server 7 and
MIS ALEA. With this tool you can build dimensions automatically
and import cube data. There are some runtime modules (batch,
runtime with gui and Windows NT Service).
The current version with TM/1 Server 7 is a BETA-Version.

Try Datalink - your local Applix office should be able to provide details. I am
told it is a better bet for large imports than Data Control, but it's dimension
maintenance tools are not as good. Horses for courses.

Hi  Steve,

I've tested several structures. The data are extracted from my client's
database. In this case IBM's DB400. Sorry, but I can't email you those data ;-)

I've also spoken to somone from Applix, Germany. She said that my problems
regarding the importer of TM1 Perspectives are connected with the first offical
release of Server 7. I'll receive a bugfix next week.

Regards

Alex...
