unable to connect to db using odbc once ado 2.6 is installed
Hi,

There is no difference in connecting through 2.6 or other
version of ADO. Do you get any error message?

unable to connect to db using odbc once ado 2.6 is installed

Hi, thanks for responding.
Here is the odbc error:

Connection failed:
SQL State: '01000'
SQL Server error: 11001
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]
Connection open
[gethostbyname()()]
Connection failed:
SQL State: '08001'
sql server error: 11
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]General network error.
check your network documentation.

The msde database resides on a win98 pc. I have full
sharing to it. The pc I am trying to connect from is
also running win98 os.

Please help me.

Thanks.
Sam

Hi,

Check if you have connection with SQL Server. Go to ODBC
Data Source from Control Panel and create DSN, which will
point to your SQL Server. Test connection there. If it
works fine, then create simple connection string in your
application and open connection using next connection
string

MyConnection.Open "DSN=MyDSNName"

See if it is working

unable to connect to db using odbc once ado 2.6 is installed
Hi,

I am using the odbc data source from the Control Panel, but
it will not connect at all.  The network is not down
because I can copy files to the sql server (network pc).
The error message from my previous reply came from the
odbc data source from control panel when trying to connect
to sql server.

Please help.
Thank you.

unable to connect to db using odbc once ado 2.6 is installed
Hi,

If you cannot connect to SQL Server ODBC Data Source in
Control Panel, then it means that you do not have access
to SQL Server. Was it working before with another version
of ADO? Do you have any administrator person?

unable to connect to db using odbc once ado 2.6 is installed
Yes, it was working with ado 2.5.
The server is running msde on win98.
There is a password for the 'sa' account login.

Once I installed ado 2.6 on the pc I am trying to connect
from, the odbc does not connect for good. I have tried this
on several computers and they all could not connect.

How do you remove ado 2.6? I don't want to re-install the
OS for all my users' pc?

Thanks.
