DDF Index length

 DDF Index length

Hi all.

I'm using Pervasive 2000i SP3 and I'm trying to get Microsoft's ISA server
to log to it.  I had limited joy (but some bits worked!).  I need to
increase the length of the index name in my tables from the default of 20 as
this is truncating the value of the field.  i.e. IX_WebProxyLog_DateTime
becomes IX_WebProxyLog_DateT  and ISA really doesn't like that!

I've found where it was defined, the system ddf - X$Field, but I can't find
out the owner name for the file and hence can't change it.

Does anybody know how to change the values contained within the system
ddf's?

Thank in advance.

 DDF Index length

The DDFs are protected by the P2000 interface, so you won't be able to
change them at all! Although there are tools that let you tweak the
contents of the DDFs, these DDFs generaly do not conform to the P2000
standard and foul up the use of indexes.

I really never tried changing the structure of the DDFs, but to my
knowledge the SQL engine always addresses them at the microkernel
level where the structure you encountered is hardcoded. You may be in
luck if the Pervasive employees that regularly scan this group, pick
up your idea and implement it in the next version.

I feared as much.  Lets wait and see what happens in the next version.

If you need to make DDF changes you can take a look at BtSearch at
www.nssdd.com.  When making any changes to your DDf files make sure
you back them up.  It allows you to make changes to the field.ddf such
as data types, starting positions or lengths, inserting or deleting
fields.  You can also open the index.ddf file and see the data
contained and make changes but again this is something that you need
to use caution with.  You also need to know a bit about DDf files
before trying to make any changes in this way.
