P4W 4.5 does not fix important bugs

I talked yesterday to Paradox technical support about the new
upgrade to Paradox for Windows. It's now called version 4.5,
having had a big version number transplant from 1.0.

But the big bugs in version 1.0 are still, according to this guy,
still there:

1) It's still impossible to call up teh query editor from OPAL.

2) You still can't use the interactive import/export stuff from OPAL.

3) There is still no way to use OPAL to activate general menu items (like
PAL can in palin DOS Paradox) which would allow getting around such
limits as in 1) or 2)

I don't like your use of the word bug refering to the problems listed
below. These are limitations, not bugs! A bug blows things up (& yes,
P4W has a few of those :-(, but let call things by the right name,
OK?

But you can build queries on you own in opal, so build you own query
editor.

Not according to the information presented at my Paradox User
meetings. A whole new group of opal commands have been added to
handle import/export.

This also has been included in the new release.

Don't get me wrong, P4W has some problems and bugs like all new products.
And some of these problems are not addressed in the new release.
Top on my list is the 64K size problem and no utility to tell you when
you are coming up to that limit. But reports from the bata testers say
that p4w is much more stable, the event model is smoother, the sql link
is in, the new oject exchanger is in, style template are in, etc. Also
the marketing rep say both windoze and dos versions will ship on the
28. That will be nice, but I won't hold my breath waiting for it.

In short, do I think Paradox for Windows is the best DBMS in the world, no.
Some parts of it still drive me crazy. Do I still think its a real good
product, yes.
