Random subsets of data - - how
Does anyone have a method for pulling a random subset of data that
does not require pulling all of the data then doing random selections
from it?

This may not be helpful, or may be obvious, but the usual 4GL method is
to scan linearly through the data but only keep records when a random
number is generated under your predefined limit.

Random subsets of data - - how
I just saw a demo of SAS's data mining tool which has a subtool which maybe
what you are looking for.  It allowed the user to specify a test scenario and
then read the relational db using odbc to get a "test  file/table".  The test
scenario was run against the full table to see if the profiles matched.

The test fie/table was used to validate the data mining techniques before using
them on the full tables.

Hope this is close to what you want.
