 Fox Pro ? using MS dbase driver

Since the UPPER() function is giving you the problem, why not
 cName=UPPER(cName)
 stmt = SQLEXEC (handle, "SELECT last LIKE 'cName%' FROM student")

This would insure compatability with any driver.
