Basic Grid and Data Enviroment question

When I drag the data enviroment onto my form it
creates a grid with all the proper associations

thats fine ...

but ..

When I click on the grid tool .. and put it on my form
I was wondering how much association I have to
manually do.

what I mean is ..

as long as I .. at least .. set the control source for the
grid in general .. the grids seem to work fine ..

should I go to each column and bind/associate it with
the field of the table ... it seems to work fine without
me doing this

Just wondering

Mike

Basic Grid and Data Enviroment question

I have found that simply specifying the Grid's RecordSource to be sufficient
unless:

* I need the Grid columns to perform some kind of calculation on the value
before displaying.
* I need the Grid columns to show the fields in some different order than
they are held in the data source (like Column 1 should really be showing the
3rd table field, etc.)

In these cases, I will go ahead and change ControlSource on the Columns.

But beware of the following if you do not set each column's ControlSource:
If anyone changes the table's field positions, the Grid will show the
columns in a different order too.

But beware of the following if you DO set each column's ControlSource: If
anyone changes any of the table's field names, then the Grid will choke!

You have to make the best decision considering your situation.
