FPW 2.6 to VFP 6.0 (forms)
Hi Chuck,
Do you keep an archive of the threads in this newsgroup? If so, you should
be able to trace back and find all threads that I started in de 2nd half of
1998 about this subject. Man, conversion is really a very frustrating
experience. These days I'm doing VFP6 fulltime and my understanding about
'that other product' grows each hour. My best advice to you is: DON'T
CONVERT, at least, don't convert NOW. First you should learn how to build a
NEW application in VFP. And one more advice: Take a course! It'll cost you
(or your employer) a lot of money, but I guess that's the price we
professionals have to pay and must be prepared to pay. Things have become
too complicated for selfstudy. It is better to get a knowledge-boost in one
week that'll cost you 2000 (?!) dollars for a course, than to build up some
knowledge in two years that in the end will have cost you 100.000 dollars
(?!) of lost income.
Conversion? At the time that you've mastered VFP you'll know what to do to
successfully convert 'some' FP-applications. Now you don't, and you can't.
Another reason for this is that the developers at MS simply have 'forgotten'
to bring the conversion tool to perfection. It is just not good enough.
(Sorry lads at MS, but it is simply the truth.)
Groet,
Peter
