 Legacy Database-Web Connectivity

How are people connecting legacy mainframe databases to the web?
Translation?
Web server on Mainframe?
Replication?
etc.

How are you doing it - securely? Through a firewall to your
Intranet?

Do you know of a good site to visit for information?
I am interested in talking with you.

Thanks,
Mark Marcelissen

I have designed a system in C around 3270 emulation and screen scraping
(TN3270E and "Across The Boards" from cfSOFTWARE, which can handle up to
128 simultaneous host connections). it was an application that web-ized
an IBM DirectTalk Voice Response application, so screen scraping was a
logical way to do it.....

Depending on what you need to do....

a) for 3270 to HTML data stream translators, there are tons....IBM has
one...MS has one...and I'm forgetting many many others....

b) for mainframe database connectivity, you might be able to use ODBC
drivers with some mainframe databases (DataCom, DB/2, etc), assuming
they have been relationalized.....

There is growing interest by software development houses in providing
this sort of connectivity, but it's not at the forefront yet....
