Talking to an Ingres database through ODBC driver/Ingres NET

We're looking into performing database queries on an Ingres database
running on a Sun/Solaris UNIX box. Currently we're looking at accessing
this from a Windows PC through an ODBC driver which is talking to Ingres NET
(sitting on a TCP/IP network).

Has anybody had any joy with this sort of combination of environments, and in
particular does anybody know of any Internet location where I can obtain
detailed (electronic) technical information on Ingres NET?

Cheers,

Stuart.

We are now shoulder deep in this environment and sinking.  We have
found some
   other alternatives which seem promising.

Wouldn't that be nice.  For now, I do have the luxury of Ingres Premium
Support who are
doing an outstanding job for us.  We pray for the next release...

We have managed to get Ingres Net talking to Microsoft Access 2 quite easily
and successfully, basically all we needed to do was:
Make sure Ingres Net is running on your UNIX box (use iibuild if not)
Install Ingres Net on your PC
Install the ODBC software on you PC
        Away you go.....

System Reqs
^^^^^^^^^^^
        Windows 3.11
        WINSOCK TCPIP
        Access 2

Hope this helps

We have a system running on a Sparc10 Model 51 using Visual Basic for Windows
with ODBC and Ingres/Net (Winsock) for the client end. Performance of the
server is not an issue. To acheive acceptable performance at the client end
you need more than a "basic" Windows PC. Say a 486/33sx with 8MB and a good
network card.

Also, if you use Visual Basic don't use data controls etc., make calls to
the ODBC API functions direct.
