 Migrating 6.4 to Ingres II
Hi

1. Is there a book somewhere where I can see all the questions and answers
concerning migrating applications from Ingres 6.4 to OpenIngres or Ingres II
or from OpenIngres to Ingres II
2. From your experience did any query, written in Ingres 6.4, not work well
after moving to Ingres II? What interests me is application wise rather then
performance wise.

Thanks In Advance.

 Migrating 6.4 to Ingres II

Moshik,
If you go to the CA web site (ww.cai.com), you will find a 'cookbook' for upgrading Ingres. Also, look at the FAQ on the NAIUA web site (www.naiua.org).

 Migrating 6.4 to Ingres II
For the most part, our IngresII migration
is smooth.  However, in our critical OLTP applications
this has not been the case.  We took our 6.4/06 ABF
applications and converted them without touching any
of the transaction logic.  When we went live, we faced
all sorts of exclusive and shared locks problems on
iisynonym and iischema.  These catalogs, of course,
did not exist in 6.4.  CA's reply to our situation is to
commit more often.  However, this means changing
the transaction logic of our applications.  No where
in the cook book is this mentioned.  We set, in CBF,
the max number of synonyms per table to zero to
see if Ingres would skip the check, but it did not.
The behavior is not consistent.  We isolated one
query and tested it in ISQL with lock_trace set.  Without
touching anything, sometimes the optimizer navigation
touches iisynonym and sometimes it does not. Weird!!
