Nt 4.0 and Btrive 5.10 A

 Nt 4.0 and Btrive 5.10 A

I am maintaining a VB for DOS application with a Btrieve 5.10A backend.
Each of the users have the Btrieve engine on their machines.  The
application allows them to transfer files of the "server" which
maintains the master records in numerous btrieve files.  Once the user
is done updating the files they are sent back to the "server" for
storage.

The system worked great under a Banyan network and each user having
Win95 on their machine.  I was forced to move the master Btrieve files
off of the Banyan server and network onto an NT server and network.  Now
things do not work well.  It appears that the application is having
record locking and index problems.  The most important Btrieve file
does not seem to maintain its indexes.  We must run a recover and load
each day in order to keep the system's indexes intact.

Any ideas on what might be happening and how I can fix it.  We can
not upgrade to a newer version of Btrieve.  I am attempting to persuade
the execs to rewrite the system in VB 5 and SQL Server, but that is not
looking good.

Any help would be appreciated.

 Nt 4.0 and Btrive 5.10 A

Btrieve v5 was a dual compile for OS2 and DOS.  We ran into
significant problems when this was loaded on an NT machine since NT
never seemed to know if it was required to load the NTVDM or the OS2
subsystem to handle processing.  This could be forced under the local
engine by using the FORCEDOS command in NT.  This seems to work fine,
however, it is only available for apps that are executing in the
NTVDM.  This is a possible temporary patch, but, I'm afraid that the
only real way to make things function as designed is to move on to a
later version of Btrieve that was written for NT support.
