 get table column properties
Is there a command in sql i can use to get a table description.  For
instance in oracle the sql would be "desc tablename".  This would list
all the columns and their properties of a table?

In psql do a \d.  By itself it will give you a list of all relations.  \d
<tablename> gives you details on a specific table.  For a list of system
tables, /dS.

Do a \? in psql and you'll see the other things you can do in psql.
