Delphi/Paradox app on a NT netware

Hello,

I developped several apps with Delphi 3, data being stored in Paradox tables
via BDE.
These apps work well on stand alone  PCs.

I need to install these apps on an NT netware. They will be run from Citrix,
with the exe and the tables in a netware directory.
What will happen when several people will use the apps (thus the tables) at
the same time ?
What will happen if they happen to write into the tables at the same time ?
Is there something I have to add to the apps, or configure in the BDE ?
Will it work ?

Valerie.

Delphi/Paradox app on a NT netware

Hi:

It looks like to me that you want to know if NT is a network enviroment - yes
it is and I have distributed many apps on NT servers

the only thing I really watch out from is that the EXE should be on the local
Stations not on the Server - if its put on the server it may cause u a .lck
File growing to large error

any how enjoy your task

Thank you.
It's just that I don't know anything about netwares.
And I wondered if there may be conflicts errors when a user tries to write
in tables that are already opened by another user, or when a user exits the
app when another just starts it, if ever a user may be rejected because
someone else is already working etc, etc.

I heard someone had this kind of problems, but the exe file was on a shared
directory, so this might be the explanation is seems ?

Can the IDAPI be installed on a shared directory ? Or should it also be
installed on the local stations ?

Valerie.

So you have never installed multi user BDE/Paradox application to network.
And then the first case where you could start practicing is NT4 (or NT3.51)
running Citrix MetaFrame.

Hmmh, there could be problems! I have seen even some experienced developers
here asking how BDE should be configured for multi user access in Citrix
environment. I don't know it in practice myself either.

I know how BDE/Paradox record lockings etc. work in pure NT network environment,
but I am not sure what does Citrix bring in there. Maybe someone has some
experience.

The basic BDE settings in multi user are explained for instance in here http://www.borland.com/devsupport/bde/ti/TI247B.html and in the other
accompanying documents. Good luck.

So does someone has any experience  of BDE configuration for multi user
access in Citrix environment ?
This answer quite scares me !

My company's product (Delphi, BDE, PDOX) is running on
Citrix/Metaframe/NT Terminal server. Just install the BDE on the server
(it's the client in this case), make sure LOCAL SHARE=True, and off you
go...

Well, that's all we did, once we had the right permissions to install..
