 Different database data types

I have to write a database application in Delphi 2 that might need to
connect to different types of databases.  My problem is that if I
design the application using Local Interbase and then switch to
Paradox at run time I get an error about some of the field types
being different (money or memo fields).

The fields have been setup at design time by double clicking on the
table component and using the fields editor.  If I don't set up the
fields at design time they will automatically be generated at run
time and I will get no error message.  I can then run through and make
some invisible so they don't all show in a grid.  My problem is how
can I change the order of them or add calculated or lookup fields as
you cannot add fields when the dataset is open.

Also has anyone noticed that the new Delphi 2 TDBGrid columns editor
does not save the first column to the .DFM file so that when you
load or run a project you loose the first column.

I would be very greatful for any help on the above problems.

Please could you mail any solutions to me aswell as replying in the
