What is the best way to get a unique key from Server ??

Hello,

I have build a Sales Order entry with master & details information. I
want to know how to get a unique key for master table ? However, I do not
want to use the autoinc key as the key.
How can I do that ??

for example, if I want to get the SO no.(Sales order no.) from the
server. Is it getting the SO no. from server when I save the record ?

Please give me some hints or example. Thanks

Regard,

AUTOINC is a field type only for paradox (I think).
With sql server you can use a combination of a trigger and a generator.
Mail me if you want a soruce for interbase.

www.o2a.com market a Delphi component at $19.00 which gives you a
platform-independent autoincrement facility - that is you can use the same code
for Oracle and SQL Server
