 VB with Excel and Word

Hello,

I use VB 4.0.  In my program, I want to create letters and I want to
calculate.  Does I have to link to Excel and Word in my application?  How
does it work?  Is the user need to have the application (Excel and Word) to
run my program if I use Excel and Word?

Thanks,

Well you don't have to use Excel and Word to calculate and create letters
but it
is an easy way to do it. You could use an OCX (or VBX) spreadsheet control
on
a form to calculate and then simply generate the letter/report using VB
print
statements (either to the printer, a file or a form).

If you choose to use Excel and Word, the only caveate is your target
machine must
be licensed for Excel and Word. There are no legal ways to distribute the
Word and
Excel DLL's that are called from VB without the installed programs. In VB
you would
just create an object (such as an Excel spreadsheet or Word document) and
reference it the same way as other objects.

Hope this answers your question.

You can use Word and Excel in your VB4 application, via OLE.
This is Object Linking Embedding. The first thing is to decide wether to
either
link the object to your application or to embed the object inside youre
application.
You must remember either way the end user must hold certified copies of
Word
and Excel.

To Link to the objects is the best way to use this method in my appinion,
as you
can not be held responsible for any software certification problems. Just
remember
to take note of the end users location of the software on there hard drive,
so you may create the links to Word and Excel in the correct directories...

Hope This Helps............Good Luck...............
