Where can I find JDBC driver for Sybase 11
Not openlinksw.com. That's a huge package. What I need is the java class for
the driver.

Thanks in advance.

They're at www.sybase.com look for JConnect. They are free for all uses now.
Being free is a recent change that may not be completely reflected in the
web site yet.

yeah, but is there one that doesn't say "beta" all over it?
Kind of hard to justify to the boss using unsupported beta software.....

as a side issue, the driver seems pretty poor. All kinds of strange quirks.

try selecting from a table with a column called "APPLICATION_LIST", for
example...

bah!

from www.sybase.com, you will always be able to download the latest fix
release for jConnect as well as the latest Beta version.  This is 2
unique products.

We recently stopped charging for jConnect based on input from the
customer
base.  This change went into effect 8-1-99.

As far as your comment about being a poor driver, I disagree.  In fact
we get
high marks from our customers on the quality of the driver.   I tried
your 'issue'
below using the IsqlApp.java sample we provide, and it works fine.  So I
do
not know what your issue is.
java IsqlApp -Usa -P -Sjdbc:sybase:Tds:alder:6689

Enter a query:
1 > use tempdb

Enter a query:
1 > create table junk(APPLICATION_LIST int)

Enter a query:
1 > insert junk values(1)
1 rows Affected.

Enter a query:
1 > select APPLICATION_LIST from junk

------------------ Result set 1 -----------------------

Columns:        APPLICATION_LIST
[ 1]    1

Enter a query:

If you have an issue or a problem with a Sybase product (or any Vendor's
product),
allow Sybase (or the Vendor) a chance to assist.

We provide 4 jConnect newsgroups on the Sybase Customer news server:

If you browse these newsgroups, you will find that we have worked hard
to provide a quality product.

If you have some specific questions or issues, then please provide me
with something to look at and I will try to assist you in being
successful with
jConnect.

Regards,
Lance

I think the real reason why it's a poor driver  is because it relies on stored
procedures on the server
to work properly. That's a big bottleneck right there. Then the fact that you can't
just use it out
of the box, unless the target server also has those procedures defined is also a big
minus.
"ok, let's query this database! oh wait..the dba has to run these procedures first".
sucks.

I don't know what people mean when they say "it's not beta, it's in GA since 1/1!".
I went to the
sybase site, registered, got download instructions and downloaded. The download says
"BETA".
I did not make this up. When the driver runs, it prints out various "debug" messages
and chugs along.
All this I did in the past 4 weeks, so don't tell me "it's better now".

just because it works properly for you at SYBASE, it doesn't mean "it works". Ever
hear microsoft say
"We are running NT here, and it's just fine - never any problems". With my example,
most likely
the driver has a bug where it kept some resultset state in memory from a previous
query (or the stored procedures,
who knows) or metadata, or it has a threading problem, and it got confused. Either
way, it's unacceptable.
If I can switch drivers dynamicall (which I can) between oracle and BDE, and sybase
gives me an error,
the sybase driver is buggy. No ifs or buts.

I appreciate your pointers. But I don't have time to beta test vendor drivers.
