Help - Can't lock records through VB in a Oracle database with "FOR UPDATE"

I don't know why, but at my department, nobody has been able to lock a
record in a Oracle database (7.3 and 8.0) through VB5, with the "SELECT ...
FOR UPDATE [NOWAIT]" statement. Also it is not possible to detect if a
record is locked with this same statement for no error is generated.

Do you think it's an ODBC driver problem ?
