Oracle 8 on Novell workable?
Novell makes a rather poor choice for an application server. I've seen the
tag-line "Think big. Think fast. Think scalable. Oracle 8 on Netware."
The line is missing "Think ABEND" - I'm serious.
Netware makes a great file / print server, but under high utilization for
even
relatively short periods of time an error in CLIB can result in a core cump.
This can be triggered by an abrupt disconnect of a client machine,
especially
if utilizing TLI (transport layer interface) over SPX.
A few years back Novell "fixed" the problem. Unfortunately, the solution was
only applicable to 25% of the customer base.
If you can't guess, my development team and the customers of our product
fell in the other 75%.
As to running Oracle - it was designed for Unix...
